Watching mother die was the worst thing I could have ever endured. First Father, then Carver, and now mother. Bethany is still with me. In a sense at least. Since she joined the Wardens three years ago she hasn't visited. Uncle Gamlen said he would send her a message with the details of Mother's death. But it doesn't feel like enough.
"Carver, watch over her." I sighed, hanging my head. The estate was silent, even Sandel wasn't his usual cheerful self.
"Shall I dispose of these lilies?" Orana's voice echoed up the stairs.
"That would probably be best. A situation like this is hard enough without reminders." A familiar voice responded. But I was more then a little confused, why was he here?
"Hawke?" Fenris asked, standing in my door way. "I don't know what to say but I am here."
"Would you try? Just say something..anything." I looked up at him, my eyes red from crying.
"They say that death is only a journey. Does that help?"
"I've heard that we go back to the Maker once we die. Do you believe that?"
"What do you mean?" He asked, walking over and sitting beside me on the bed.
"Do you think my mother is with the maker now?"
"Leandra was a . . .remarkable woman. If anyone deserved to be by your Maker's side it would be her. However." He paused, studying my face and then frowned. "I think that stories like that are for the weak minded. Giving a purpose to our meaningless lives."
"You've always had the weirdest ways of cheering me up."
"I'm sorry. I'm no good at things like this."
"Don't apologize. It's actually helping." I smiled. "A little."
"Only a little? I'll have to work on that." He wiped a tear from my face. "Would you like me to make a joke, the way Verric would? A dwarf, a mage, and an elf walk into a bar. . . ."
"Oh please don't. You'll botch the punch line." I laughed. "Jokes have never been you're strong suit."
"You've got me there." He laughed as well, but his smile soon faded as an awkward silence grew between us. It had been months since he walked out on me. Yet he still wore my sash and the Amell crest on his hip. Part of me understood how hard all of this must be on him. But I wanted more then anything to feel his touch again. "I don't like to fill these moments with empty talk."
"Then let's not make it empty." My gaze remained on my clenched hands.  "Please Fenris, I just need someone to talk to right now."
"I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to loose your family." He paused. "But you still have the mage."
"Bethany." I cast a glare at him.
"Yes, Bethany. My apologies."
"She's a warden now. It's doubtful she'll even get Gamlen's message let alone speak to me again." My eyes drifted back to my hands. "After all this is my fault."
"If you're looking for forgiveness, I'm not the one that can give it to you. But the things your uncle said were uncalled for. He was being needlessly hurtful."
"No he's right. I should have been strong enough to stop that monster from touching her. Carver would be disappointed to know how weak his sibling has gotten.  I couldn't protect Bethany, nor mother."
"Don't speak nonsense. Your mother was doomed from the moment she received those lilies. Nothing you could have done would have changed that"
"The Amell are a line of strong men and woman. I've failed them." I sighed.
He lightly touched the crest he wore on his hip and frowned. "You heard what Leandra said. She was proud of you. But now you disrespect her by thinking of yourself as a failure? Perhaps you have let them down."
"Are you trying to being caring Fenris?" A slight chuckled escaped my tough façade.
"It happens once in a great while." He smiled.
"I have to admit I like it, even if it is a bit. . . odd." I smiled sadly, a small tear rolling down my cheek. "Thank you, Fenris. It means more to me then you know."
"Hawke. . . I. . ." He stood up quickly. "I shouldn't be here. This was a mistake."
"No, please. "
"I'm glad I could comfort you but. . ."
"Fenris, stay with me tonight." I took a step forward and snaked my arms around his waist. "As a friend. Please."
He reached down and gently touched my arm. "I will . . .as a friend."

Ok Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
You may not believe it but I’m a diehard gamer. My new addiction: Dragon Age 2 and more importantly Fenris. :faint:

Here come the spoilers. I played last night and the scene where Fenris comforts Hawke after his/her mom dies was a little short for me. I wanted to see a little more talk and/or action. So what does Melissa do to fix this? Write a fanfic of course! So here is what I think should have happened.

I tried to using some dialogue that they used in the game, but my memory isn’t that good. And I don’t think I did well on Fenris’ personality (it’s more of what I want him to say as apposed to what he would ), but oh well.: I tried.
